SMASH 2022 is over!
Thanks to all involved for an excellent and successful meeting.
We look forward to SMASH 2023 in Baveno, amidst the beautiful Italian Lakes!
SMASH is a scientific meeting highlighting Small Molecule NMR research and applications, held in alternating years between North America and Europe.
This year's conference was held at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines from Sunday August 28th through Wednesday August 31st 2022.
SMASH 2022 COVID statement
As SMASH organisers we are aware of the understandable concerns regarding possible COVID transmission at large scale events and will put in place various measures to minimise such risks at this year’s meeting. In particular we shall adopt the following policies:
- Meals and social activities will be held outdoors (thanks to the temperate La Jolla weather)
- Wearing of masks will be strongly encouraged in all indoor meeting areas (for your own benefit as well as your fellow participants)
- Sanitiser stations will be widely distributed around the conference hotel
- Poster boards will be well separated in the poster sessions
- Chairs will be well spaced in the lecture hall
In addition we encourage all participants to undertake a COVID test (LFT/RAT etc) before travelling to the conference and not to attend if unwell immediately before the event.

If you want to learn the latest NMR methods, find new applications for the technology or meet the movers and shakers in the field, SMASH is the place to do it.
- Fantastic science - SMASH showcases the latest developments in NMR methodology and their applications in cutting-edge industrial settings. World-leading scientists and industry experts discuss the latest challenges and solutions in our field.
- Academia meets Industry - SMASH brings together the leading scientists from academia and industry in one international meeting. If you want to cross the boundaries between research and application - SMASH has the people you need to be talking to.
- Networking and Employment - The meeting is highly social with plenty of opportunities for mixing and meeting the top spectroscopists and perhaps your future employers. Annual attendees include representatives from small through to multinational healthcare, nutrition, oil and gas, specialist chemical and coatings industries as well as leading NMR hardware and software companies: Akzonobel, Takeda, Ajinomoto, BASF, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Petrobras, AstraZeneca, Amgen, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novartis, Roche, Genentech, Actelion, Merck, Lilly, Bayer, Abbvie, Nestle, ExxonMobil, Johnson & Johnson and many more.
